According to a study conducted by Kenji Obayashi, M.D., Ph.D., a research lecturer at the Nara Medical University School of Medicine in Japan, there exists a correlation between artificial light exposure at night and depression. According to Obayashi, “Light at night could be altering the body's natural circadian rhythms, which relate to sleep/wake cycles and also seem to play a role in helping manage many of the body's systems.” He went on to say, “Delayed circadian phase may cause depression and insomnia.” More information can be found at:

In addition, the preemies exhibited improved heart rate, breathing and feeding upon hearing a mother’s voice. For this study mothers held their preemie children in a “Kangaroo Position” against their chest while gently singing to them. The mothers were told to keep the sound of their voice between 60 and 70 decibels. More information can be found at:

The study involved 45 patients who had “severe and treatment-resistant unipolar depression.” The individuals were scanned using a magnetic resonance imaging scan (MRI) before and after the treatment.
