Bilingual Individuals Have More Efficient Brains

According to a study conducted at Northwestern University and the University of Houston, bilingual people require less brain power to complete tasks than monolingual individuals. The researchers used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans to analyze the brain activity of 18 monolingual English speakers and 17 bilingual speakers. The study showed that although both monolinguals and bilinguals were able to correctly identify objects accurately, monolinguals brains had to work more vigorously to accomplish the same goal.
